The FHN boys golf team started their season with some tricky conditions.
The weather for their first few matches was wet, windy, and cold. The boys had to adjust to these difficulties and overcome challenges the rain and wind provided.
“They hung in and persevered,” coach Les Hager said. “The scores were decent despite the conditions…”
The rain seems to be a consistent problem for the golf team. Last year, three matches were canceled due to the weather, and they did not get to have many practices. The team hopes that they can get in more playing time to work on achieving their goals at the end of the year.
“My goal is to make it to State and have the team go to State,” junior Mike Taylor said.
There are 11 people on the team this year and they have high hopes for future matches and GAC’s. The team has won their first two matches and are working hard to keep their streak going.
“Our second match was really good,” senior Brandon Lewis said. “Everybody shot around their average
which is good if we try to make it to State.”
With a limited number of players on the team, the boys get to know each other pretty well. They make sure to support each other and push each other to do their best.
“We’re going to have good camaraderie ,” Hager said. “They all get along well and cheer for each other. That’s good with such an individual sport.”
