When you hear “Chuck Palahniuk”, usually you think of his blockbuster hit “Fight Club” with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Palahniuk has written other books along with “Fight Club”, such as “Invisible Monsters” and “Stranger than Fiction; True Stories.”
In his book “Stranger than Fiction; True Stories,” Palahniuk digs into the deep world of fictional writing. He talks about stories written about situations that can be true or false and how you can never know if their writing is true or not.
The stories he depicts in this book come from different AA meetings and writing workshops, from random stories that he’s heard to situations he’s been in and people he’s met. His work has always been very controversial, but at the same time he makes you think. As I read this book, it made me rethink some views on fiction. What is fiction to one person, can be someone else’s true story. The person listening to the story would see it as fictional because they never experienced it.
I would recommend this book to any one who loves short stories and/or is a big fan of Palahniuk’s work. He digs deep into this alternate world of writing we never really thought about, and does a really good job.
