Social networks have some students slacking daily

It’s spreading. Like a medieval plague it has begun to infect everyone, and it appears to be growing stronger with each new victim. Facebook is the name of this disease and its symptoms are as follows;

taking folders upon folders of self portraits and then posting them online, making comments to friends using new terminology such as ‘that’s so not facebookable,” and making chat speak a part of your everyday language. Online social networks like Facebook have become a a part of our modern society, but they have begun to cross over into our everyday physical life, not just the digital world.

While moderate use of social networks is fine, excessive use can prove damaging. Facebook has been associated with lower school grades, cyber bullying, and termination from jobs. A study found that student’s who use Facebook every day average a whole letter grade lower than those who use the social network sparingly. Reports of cyber bullies using the network, especially through applications such as “the honesty box,” have been a nuisance since its creation. Results such as these have some parents up in arms to have stricter limits placed on social networks.

A simple yet affective cure is available to everyone who may have become one of the afflicted. Simply limit your time trapped between the covers of “the Book” and you may be on the road to a complete recovery.
