Varsity girls lose first game of season in PKs

There is always a first time for everything, cliché as it may sound. On April 15, the Lady Knights soccer team lost their undefeated title at home to the St. Charles West Pirates in a 0-0 loss in PKs.

The Knights and St. Charles West only scored when the game went into sudden death PKs after regulation, two overtimes and regulation PKs.

“[The game] was horrible,” junior Bre Kinworthy said. “We just weren’t playing as a team at all.”

Though the girls were fighting for another win, the other team had different strengths. It seems the girls had finally met their match.

‘”They were good at winning 50/50 balls, and playing under high pressure,” Kinworthy said.

Every team has an obstacle to overcome, this just happened to be the Lady Knight’s first. Their record is now 6-1, but they will not let their first loss of the season put them in a rut.

“I think that because we lost, it’s just going to put more fire under our butts,” Kinworthy said. “We didn’t like losing last night.”

The girls plan to go into their next game with twice as much drive. The upcoming game is April 17 against Central at Central. Now the pressure is on; not only did the girls not play as a team in their previous game, their next game is against their rivals.

“I think [at the next game] we’re going to be fired up, and double fired up just because it’s Central,” Kinworthy said.
