Lady Knights shut out Holt, 3-0

The Varsity Lady Knights soccer team scored early and hung on as they defeated Holt 3-0.

Junior Kelsey Hieb got the scoring going in the first couple of minutes of play as she tipped the ball by the goalie from nearly five feet away.

Minutes layer, junior Betsy Blanchard took a shot from the top of the box and the keeper was only able to get one hand on it as the Knights took a 2-0 lead. With two quick goals and a third by senior Dani Langness, the team seemed to let up a little bit and play more of a defensive game.

“I felt we did what we had to and got it done,” senior captain Morgan Boudreau said. “But we didnt play as well up top as we should have and are capable of.”
Although the Knights were disappointed that they did not capitalize on the rest of their opportunities, their defense anchored the team as they have done for the entire season. This was the team’s second shutout of the year, and they have not allowed more than one goal in any game this year.
The Knights did have a slight scare in the win as starting midfielder’s Becky Lackey and Brooke Oostendorp were both injured, but with the help of Joe Bommarito, the tension was eased as they both were able to walk off of the field at the end of the game.
Up next for the Knights is rival Fort Zumwalt West on Friday April 24 at 4 p.m.
