Knightprov helps Drama Club close curtains on good note

Improvisation: the act of speaking, writing, or performing without preparation. This is what FHN’s Drama Club took part in at Knightprov on May 1 in the FHN auditorium

at 7 pm. Similar to the TV show, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” North’s senior Masque Players hosted this night of jokes and skits.

“Well, we try to do a Drama Club event for the seniors every year,” Drama Club Sponsor Kathy Carron said. “[Knightprov] is a series of improv games where the rules are made up on the spot and the audience members participate,”

For those who have never seen an episode of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” host Drew Carey and the contestants use their talents in improvisation, humor, and sometimes even singing to force the audience almost to the point of falling out of their seats with laughter. North’s Drama Club successfully recreated that atmosphere with Knightprov.

“I feel the show was a great success,” German teacher and Knightprov participant Anne McPartland said. “I thought the audience was involved when we asked for ideas and they gave good ideas.”
Because this was the final production of the year for Drama Club, much work was put in to ensure its success, and the 21 participants, three of whom are FHN faculty members, were the core of the entertainment. Many think the Senior Masque Players left a lasting impression on the school with the final showcase of their talents.
“I feel good banananananana,” senior Eric Peters said referencing the song by James Brown. “I’m kind of sad its the end of high school theater, but it’s also a good thing.”
With the end of Carron’s final year at North just around the corner, she looks to the graduating seniors to help her close the curtain with a bang.
“This is the first improv show at North since I’ve been here,” Carron said. “I think at first the audience was slow to respond, but as the night went on they got more involved.”
