CSLP takes their final field trip

On Monday April 30, the Community Service Learning Program went on a field trip to Woodland’s Sports and Recreation Park to plant trees. This trip not only marked CSLP’s final

field trip of their yearly requirement of three, but also marked CSLP’s final field trip to ever take place.
“It was wet out, and a little chilly, but it was fun,” senior Dani Langness said. “When we got there, this guy pointed to a hill and told us we were going to plant 400 trees. I was like ‘Ha! you’re funny,’ but we still had a good time.”
After this year, CLSP – currently an after-school class – will become an in-school course designed to help students who are behind in their curriculum. Students who wish to continue to participate in after school activities or field trips will have to join Volunteer Knights, who will be starting a program similar to the current CLSP program.
“I think it’s awful,” senior Jen Street said. “[CSLP] gives kids the opportunity to see possible jobs [they could work] in the future. Where else can you work at a hospital or a veterinarian’s office?”
On May 7, CSLP held a celebration of service to honor students who had completed their required community service hours. Awards and scholarships were handed out at the event.
“The kids that I worked with this year, they’re an awesome group of kids,” CSLP sponsor Kellie Hausner said. “I’m definitely going to miss the program next year.”
