The Lady Knights Varsity soccer team is off to a lightning quick start as they have 15 wins, one tie, only one loss, and are ranked as the third best large school in the area.
Even though the Lady Knights coach, Dan Hogan, has seen very successful seasons in his past (girls State Championship in 1995), he agrees that this is a very special group of girls.
“They’re a wonderful group of players who are very coachable,” Hogan said. “They work very hard and are a fun group of people to be with.”
One of the team’s most recent accomplishments was winning the FHN/St. Domininc Shootout. The team got off to a great start as they beat Parkway West 3-0 in their opening game of the tournament. Even though the Knights had momentum from their opening tournament win, they were not quite successful in the second game of the tournament as they escaped with a 1-1 tie against Borgia on a last minute goal by Morgan Boudreau.
This would match them up with Ursuline, and the task was very evident: win and they would be playing St. Dominic for the tournament title. The task was very visible to the Knights as they beat Ursuline 3-1 advancing them to the tournament championship. For the first time in tournament history, the two hosts met in the final game. In a defensive struggle, the Knights won on Erin Martin’s first goal of the year which also handed St. Dominic only their second loss of the season (both to the Knights).
“We’ve had a lot of hard work, but fun,” offensive center midfielder Morgan
Boudreau said. “If your heart’s not in it, it’s just not going to be enjoyable.
The girls final game of the regular season is tomorrow against Oakville and they are hoping for a decisive win to head into districts.
“This is a big game for us,” sophomore Stephanie Blanchard said. “We need to come into Districts with confidence.”
