Spanish club hosts Cinco de Mayo

Cinco do Mayo: a spanish holiday of independence, cultural food, fun festivities and dancing.
Spanish Club members and officers planned and organized for North’s annual

Cinco de Mayo party held in the Commons at 6 p.m. on May 5.
“It was awesome,” club sponsor Stacey Berberich said. “Everybody had fun. There were musical chairs and we had a piñata that was slightly easier to break last year.”
The annual celebration is traditionally held in the Commons with games such as musical chairs and limbo. The club members each put in money for pizza, and any non-member attending the party was required to pay in advance for pizza that was delivered the night of the celebration.
“This was our biggest time of the year,” Berberich said. “This was our biggest event of the year as well.”
While North’s Cinco de Mayo celebration is mainly a traditional party hosted by the Spanish Club, both the German Club and French Club helped with party needs.
“I helped with decorations and cleaning up the commons afterwards,”
junior Randi Yousey said. “That’s what I did last year, and it helped a lot.”
Though the majority of students who attended were club members, anyone at North was welcome to join the foreign language festivities. Club member or not, North’s annual Cinco de Mayo celebration was an unforgettable tradition, bringing all foreign languages together and teaching students the cultures of others.
“We had lots of big things planned in store for us this past year,” junior Matt Lindsay said. “Even though we’ve had other events planned in the past month, all everyone was talking about was our party.”
