Teacher leaves North with hopes of earning her Master’s

Eight years of teaching, eight years of casts, eight years of crews. After eight years, drama teacher Kathy Carron has decided to leave North.

“It will give me some extra time outside of school to pursue personal goals,” Carron said. “I’m going from a very active program and starting
all over again.”
Next year, Carron will be teaching the drama program at Barnwell Middle School. She wishes for more time to spend with her daughter, along with time to go back to school to get her master’s. She also wants to teach her class at Lindenwood, called Methods of Teaching – speech and theater.
Many of her students were particularly surprised when she broke the news to them. She hadn’t ever mentioned that she was considering this.
“I just sat there with my mouth open,” junior Shelby Misuraco said. “It’s going to be weird trying to act in front of a new teacher.”
These students who have been with Carron for a while now are especially upset about this change.
“I stay after school a lot and she pretty much knows me,” junior Nick Marquart said. “She’s funny and she really knows her stuff. She would talk to us about real life, not just drama. We all have a good relationship with her.”
Carron will be making the age jump from high-schoolers to middle-schoolers, but due to her previous teaching years at Hollenbeck Middle School, this doesn’t worry her. She mainly wishes for a continuance of the current drama program at North.
“It’s hard leaving the students here who aren’t graduating,” Carron said. “I hope that the program [at North] does well and stays the way it is. We have some really great students here.”
Her students also wish the best for her. Although they are disappointed about her leaving, they want her to be happy teaching at her new school.
“I hope that she becomes an even better teacher than she is now,” Marquart said. “I hope she will prepare the kids for high school, they will love her, and she will come back and visit us.”
