We all change as we grow

Black nails. Dark eye shadow. Crazy colored hair. That’s the general idea of someone who is trying to rebel against something, whether it be their parents, school, or just life itself.
Hot pink nails. Blue-green eye shadow. Curly brown hair. Not the typical style of someone who wants to turn their world upside down.
We all go through a stage in our lives where we want to be different, we want to change or re-invent ourselves. Even those of us who never thought it would happen.
My name is Lauren Ashley Skinner. I’m preppy, really loud, and always wanting to be in the know. I had to watch my best friend go through this “re-inventing” process last year. It not only changed her, it changed our relationship as well. I never would have thought that a year later, I would be the one going through almost the exact same thing. Everyone sees me as always having
a plan, always knowing what is happening,
and always trying to think with a level head. But no one sees the me that wants so badly to run away from every problem, every struggle, and to rebel against everyone. Certain things have impacted my life, some negatively and others the opposite, but each major event has left its mark. Some of you that know me and that are reading this might be wondering, “Wow, Lauren change who she is? Never going to happen.” To those of you who are thinking that, stop.
I hate to say that last year I judged my friend when she went through that. Now that I am going through the same thing, I realize I shouldn’t have judged her. I should have been there for her. When teens decide to change who they are, we get weird looks and we lose friends, we were real friends we would all stick by them and not judge the choices they make. We all grow as we go through school, but the people that are standing by us at the end are the ones we remember, not the all the changes we went through.
