Sophomore’s recieve class rings

The year is coming to an end, which usually means things are winding down. This is different for the sophomores though. Many of the sophomores, have been awaiting this time to receive their class rings, which will be held tomorrow, May 15. The sophomore officers and sponsor had to do a lot of planning for this.

“We had to hang up posters and we had to pick a day when we thought [the ring ceremony] would be best,” sophomore class president Chris Zerr said. “We wore model rings to convince kids to buy them too.”
Diane Fingers, the sophomore’s class sponsor also had to help with the planning, which began in late January or early February.
“I had to divide all of the kids in alphabetical order between tables, and then make passes so they can leave for the commons,” Fingers said.
The officers and Fingers had to also pick a T-shirt design. The officers accepted designs from any of the sophomores. In the end they actually took two of the designs and molded them into one shirt. There will be many things going on at the ceremony.
“I’ll introduce (representative) Jeff Rodenberg,” Fingers said. “The officers will then demonstrate the order and how to get the rings, and then the students can get breakfast. The officers will then announce all of the students names to get their own rings.”
For the 175-200 sophomores that bought class rings, many are looking forward to being able to show off their rings on Thursday. All class rings are unique, which makes them priceless to the owner.
“You get to personalize them and make them your own, and when you look back at them, it will bring back memories that you made in high school,” sophomore Beth Hillis said. “I’m so excited for Thursday to get my class ring.”
