Choir ends year on Spring Concert

After many countless hours of singing and dancing, the Francis Howell North Choir ended their year at the 2009 Spring concert. They performed the choir concert twice on two different days, Monday and Tuesday.

Mixed Chorus, Treble Choir, Knightsound, and Concert Choir all performed a variety of songs. All the preparation for the concert really payed off.
“Overall we did great,” junior Jessica Jimenez said. “My favorite song was ‘Praise His Holy Name,’ It’s something the audience can get into, even though they all don’t clap, you know they want to.”
After the show tuesday many were ecstatic because of how well the concert went. With an auditorium full of people’s eyes focused on them, many were nervous but made it through the night and had a very successful performance.
“The concert was really good!” Choir Director Lorraine Smith said. “It was awesome, there was a lot of energy, it was one of my funnest concerts ever. The choir is really good at putting everything together in the end. They’re good at making me nervous, but when push comes to shove, they get up on stage and do a great job.”
Many have come out of this choir year learning a lot of important things. Each person gained knowledge on something they could use for their future.
“I learned how to work together [with others],” senior Ashley Holtshouser said. “And how to balance each others sound.”
Other then the choir banquet on May 20th, the concert was the last event. It really has come time for choir members to say goodbye to seniors. At the concert last night the very last song was dedicated to the seniors, to let them know that they will always be remembered.
“I will miss not getting to see my choir family,” senior Lauren Stillman said. “We act just like a family, we have good and bad times.”
In a short amount of time, seniors in choir will say goodbye to the home they have known for years. Their director looks at leaving as a great opportunity, and hopes the seniors see that as well
“I am ready to move on,” Smith said. “I’m sad to see the seniors move on because they are a talented class, but at the same time, [I’m] excited for them because they have good stuff coming and many new opportunities.
Choir has had many achievements this year: All choirs’ received superior ratings at MSHSAA State Choir Competition, two students were sent to All-State choir, eight students made All-District Choir, and when Knightsound went to Atlanta they received the honor of being named best overall choir.
“This year was pretty incredible,” Smith said. “All the choir’s had a lot of great opportunities and everyone worked really hard and got along.”
Many will miss this year and the people who are leaving, but they are already starting to look into the future for next year. All of the achievements choir has gotten this year will never be forgotten.
“I think the underclassmen will have to step up to the plate,” Smith said. “They have some big shoes to fill. I think to be successful next year, they will have to set high standards for themselves because the bar has been set high. I have a group of senior guys that do everything for me, by helping me move boxes and sound equipment. I will really miss it, but I hope we trained others well enough to step it up next year. I really do think we have people who can take over; they just really took care of me this year.”
