Lost in a moment, found in a second

footballgameSo first of all, let me set the scene. Last night was the first home football game. The entire student section was filled to the top and the bleachers throughout were jam packed.

There was body paint, noise makers, clapping, yelling, dancing, singing, and cheering galore. The players were extremely pumped and, needless to say, the fans were born ready. It is safe to say though, that it was the biggest crowd I had ever seen for one of our games. The atmosphere was insane and the mood was contagious as we all all joined in unison to cheer for our Knights. The intensity of the game kept me locked until my curiosity grew to be a little too much. We were so loud I could barely hear the people next me so I knew I just had to take a glimpse at how many people were actually behind us hootin’ and hollerin’.

Then, as I turned to face our crowd, I was hit with so many mixed emotions it was hard to handle. At that point I felt so lost in this crowd, but so much a part of something at the same time. I was found. Found a senior. Found a kid. Found a Knight. Found a friend to so many people. Finally, I realized that I am at the top of the food chain in the school as my friends and I were the ones starting the chants and screaming our heads off for our players. I think the most eye opening moment, however, was when I saw how many different students were together in the stands no matter what “group” they were a part of or what grade they were in. Hundreds of us were squished together so close we couldn’t even move and were making fools of ourselves, completely disregarding the fact that we looked absolutely ridiculous. The night was incredible because not only were we supporting our team, we were hanging out with this diverse sea of people having the time of our lives, too. I am so thankful to get the opportunity to be surrounded by such great kids that I hold so close to my heart. Even for just those couple of hours everyone was able to put aside differences, stop all the fighting you hear in the halls, and leave the drama elsewhere. Yes, for this game, we were all Knights just cheering on our team and nothing else.
For me, this game set the tone for the rest of my senior year in high school. I’m ready to live up every moment with no regrets because, before I know it, I’ll be leaving a place that truly has become a home for me the past four years. It seems crazy that a football game could bring out so much emotion, but when you get so used to teenagers making fun of each other, stereotyping, bullying, and doing things way beyond their years, it is great to be able to just share a great time together at a place that unites us all. It is remarkable how one school, one group of people can change you and make you feel on top of the world when you least expect it. Trust me when I say it doesn’t matter if you know everyone in a crowd or absolutely nobody there. It just feels good to fit in and be a part of something that you know is just a little bit bigger than you.
I hope everyone will come out to the games and help in keeping up the spirit of our team, as well as showing up every other school in the area! Check out North’s online calendar to find out not only when the games are, but also all of the other events going on at school.
