Hat Day falls Short

On Sept. 10 Volunteer Knights held a hat day to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes.

“I didn’t help last year but this year when I collected money I was surprised of how many people donated,” sophomore Alex Oppenborn said. “What really surprised me was there were more students who donated a dollar just to donate than students wearing a hat.”

This year Volunteer Knights only raised about half of what they raised last year.

“I didn’t think we had enough announcements telling about hat day and also this year we didn’t ask teachers to remind students about hat day,” Oppenborn said.

A lot of students suffer from this disease. These students may have to watch their eating habits or even how they exercise.

“This hat day was personal for me because I have friends that have this disease and I know that they don’t have a normal life and suffer,” Oppenborn said. “I think the fact that people donated was really cool and I can’t wait for the next hat day.”
