On Saturday Sep. 12 nine students from the Speech and Debate Club went to Pattonville High School for a field trip. From 8-12 p.m. students from many different schools could go to three different sessions.
“Basically it was an introduction to all the different groups of speech and debate,” senior Erica Childs said. “So there were three sessions that you were supposed to go to. In each session there was a list of five different classes you could go to. The first one I went to was poetry. It basically told if you decided to compete in poetry what it would all be about. Then they had a couple people that had done it last year and they did their pieces from last year.”
The field trip proved to be very helpful for many of the students, but some students wished that they had more time to explore the other areas of speech and debate.
“I think it was very helpful, but I wish I could have seen all six of the events,” junior Cassie Crain said.
The speech and debate field trip was the perfect way to start off the year for old and new members of the team.
“It definitely gave me an idea of what each section was all about and if I want to do any of the sections,” Childs said.
