There have been many great writers in the past like William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens but for our time one author has really stood out to me: Ellen Hopkins.

Her first book, Crank, made New York Times best seller list and rapidly became popular by word of mouth. So, when teens found out there is a sequel to Crank and then two other books published, they had to read them all.

She has six popular books out which are Crank, Glass (sequel to Crank), Impulse, Burned, Identical, and her newest edition, Tricks. Her books are about the ever day teenager and what goes on behind the scenes of what seems to always be a normal family.

I have read Crank, Glass, Impulse, and recently finished Burned. Out of the three, I can honestly say that Impulse is a must read. It is about three teenagers that fail at their attempts to commit suicide and get sent away at a mental institute. It is interesting to see how their individual stories intertwine throughout the book.
