Dear Francis Howell Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
We have a confirmed case of influenza A in your student’s school. Influenza is a viral infection spread through contact with an infected individual.
Influenza symptoms are usually worse than a cold and may last longer. Type A influenza usually does not cause vomiting or diarrhea. H1N1 has been associated with the influenza a virus. Most physicians are no longer testing specifically for the H1N1 strain.
Influenza A symptoms may include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Extreme tirednes s
- Dry Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Body aches or joint pain
If Your child should get tthe flu:
- Keep at home until fever free for 24 hours
- Do not send your child to school if having frequent coughing spells
- Get plenty of rest
- Drink plenty of fluid s (water, soup, tea, etc.)
Since the flu usually spread from person to person, taking simple precautions may help protect your child and others.
- Wash hands with soap and water/use hand santizers and gesl frequently
- Stay at home if temperature is 100 degrees or higher. Remain at home until fever free for 24 hours with out the aid of fever reducing medication
- Cover your cough
If you are unsure if your child should/should not be in attendance, please contact your school nurse. Together we we’ll continue to provide a healthy learning environment for all district students
Sincerely,
Jane Stiglich, RN
