Saturday October 3rd the Greenway Network is hosting a volunteer work day at Portage des Sioux in the cities floodplain nature park. The Greenway Netwok has worked along side the city for many years in order to maintain the park. Everyone is welcome to volunteer with Greenway Network and help to make the park a cleaner place.
“It(Greenway Network) is very environmentally based and its very into getting kids to help out,” Junior NHS president Abigail Oleshchuk said.
There are many things that need to be done around the park, there is a security cable to install, a sign frame to build, some trail maintenance, and new interpretive signs to install. Lunch will be provided to anyone who volunteers. The volunteers should meet at the Nature Area parking lot at Saucier and Main in Portage. Work will begin at 9:00 and last until either 11:30 or 12:00. The Greenway Network is hoping for a big turnout.
“It’s a great group and they work really hard,” Oleshchuk said.
