Anne McPartland, who is in charge of the mentor program, is also in charge of the German exchange students and has been very busy.
“I wasn’t able to prepare the meeting the way I wanted to,” McPartland said. “So the information is going to be given in a handout.”
The mentor program at FHN is a helpful organization to make the transition into high school easier for freshmen. To become a mentor you must be a junior or a senior.
“It’s just to help people adapt to high school better.” Senior mentor Kyle Harman said.
During homeroom on Wednesdays mentors go to their assigned freshman homeroom to talk, play games, and interact with the freshmen to help make them feel more comfortable in school.
“I really enjoy it [being in charge of mentors].” McPartland said. “It’s a great positive interaction with the school culture and it helps the ninth graders in feeling they belong.”
