On Oct. 23, chemists celebrate Mole Day. A mole is a figure of counting that equates to 6.022 X 10^23. As sort of a pun, Donna Malkmus, one of the chemistry teachers, offered an extra credit opportunity. This opportunity involved the construction of small stuffed animal moles.
“A mole is kind of like a baker’s dozen,” Malkmus said, “just in chemistry.”
In honor of mole day, all of Malkmus’s chemistry classes will be participating in her scavenger hunt about the school, but because of the three day weekend, it’s being moved to Monday, Oct. 26. Malkmus made a point of how large a mole is.
“You could have a mole of pennies and still be rich,” Malkmus said.
