DECA prepares for annual Jumpoff

jumpoff
On Nov. 12, DECA will be hosting another annual Jump-Off basketball competition at 7 p.m. in the gym for $3. The juniors and sophomores will start the event off with a basketball game.

DECA advisor Joe De Ciechi said, “There’s going to be a game with junior vs. sophomores. That will be the opening game. The Knightline is going to perform . There will be a student faculty game and we’ll have some sort of contest at halftime.”

The seniors and the teachers will compete head-to-head in a basketball game after halftime. There has been a friendly tension between the teachers and the seniors prior to the Jump-Off in years past.
“It gives them something to talk about,” De Ciechi said, “There’s a lot of trash talk back and forth. It’s a different way for them to relate to one another besides in the classroom.”
A senior playing in this year’s Jump-Off is confident that his class will take the victory.
“The seniors will beat the teachers,” senior Tyler Wagner said.
In the past, the seniors have been unsuccessful when it came to winning against the teachers in basketball.
“The seniors always think they’re going to win, but it’s never happened,” De Ciechi said.
Most of the money raised at the Jump-Off will go to the DECA Chapter, but some will be given to charity. The more people that show up to Jump-Off to support their classmates and teachers, the more money DECA will have to fund their club throughout the year.
“It’s a fun time to come out and watch the students play the faculty and support DECA,” Wagner said.
