Five years of Mock Rock

mockrockThis year Student Council will be hosting their fifth Mock Rock in the auditorium on Dec.11. Tickets are 5 dollars and the show starts at 6:00. Last year the competition included about 10 acts ranging from Aladdin’s “A whole new world” to Alvin and the Chipmunks’ “Witch Doctor.”

“I’d like to see more groups preform I think it’s more interesting to watch groups then solos and last year we had quite a few solos.” StuCo sponsor Jani Wilkens said.

The profits from the show go towards future StuCo things such as the dances. The money also goes towards the winners of the competition; first place gets 200 dollars, second place gets 100 dollars, and third place gets fifty dollars.

“We’re not really that concerned [about how much money is raised] as long as we can cover the prize funds, but it just goes to our general funds,” Wilkens said.

Last year Mock Rock drew in an audience of about 300 people and a profit of about 1,500 dollars.

“I’d like to increase [the number of people who attend],” Wilkens said. ” I’d like to see about 350 people. The second year we had the auditorium filled and people were standing.”

“[My favorite thing is] how all your friends can get together, having a fun time dancing, and singing and acting a fool in one competition,” StuCo cabinet member Justin Jones said. “the teachers can get involved too.”
