youtubeIn May of 2008, Katy Perry was launched into stardom with her release of the song “I Kissed A Girl”.  Even though this catchy pop tune caused a lot of controversy, it still topped the charts in over 30 different countries.  The only thing that would have  made this song even better would have been to have an all guy metalcore band singing it.  Within three months of the release that is just what A Perfect Failure an unsigned band from Michigan did.  With all the Punk Goes Pop and Punk Goes Crunk CD’s that have came out in recent years it was only a matter of time.  However, this is perhaps one of the most entertaining cover of a Pop song from Screamo, Punk, and Metal bands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb-ZrLQmP_Y

When the Industrial band Skinny Puppy came out with their first full length album since 1996 in 2004 it was obvious from the beginning that their reunion was off to a good start.  The first music video from that album was “Pro-test” which is an amazing example of different break dancing styles.  In it there is a showdown between a crew of guys dancing on the side of the street and an all Goth crew.  It has some really impressive head spins, windmills, threading, and krumping.  This is a great video for anyone that enjoys the b-boy style or good music in general. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADkQVJz6wuY&feature=related

The song Nymphetamine came out in 2004 on the sixth album by English Metal band Cradle of Filth.  It tells the story of a man addicted to a succubus type woman who has full control over him.  The contrast between Liv Kristine’s angelic soprano voice and Dani Filth’s growls gives an intensely haunting feel.  The imagery in the video is also great with skulls and a music box among other things.  It’s filmed to seem as if people are getting ready for and preforming in a play while the band is playing in a room that almost seems like a dungeon.  It’s heavily influenced by Edgar Allan Poe and the Gothic style.

The 2006 short film “Zombie Prom” is an adaptation of the off-Broadway musical of the same name.  It takes place in the 1950’s and is kind of like a mix between “Grease” and “Dance of the Dead” with a cast of little known actors and drag queen RuPaul.  Even though there have been numerous showings at film festivals, this movie has unfortunately not been released on DVD and was only available for a short amount of time in 2007 on iTunes.  As of right now only the trailer and first 10 minutes can be found online thanks to the magic of You Tube but hopefully one day the rest of it will be available to viewers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UvmWFxc0zY&feature=related

Japan has, without a doubt, some of the best game shows ever made.  They have Sauske (more commonly known as Ninja Warrior), Kinniku Banzuke (a.k.a. Unbeatable Banzuke), and Kasou Taishou (the Matrix Ping Pong video is the most popular example of this).  One of the best of these game shows is probably Brain Wall more commonly called Human Tetris.  The players in the game must get through different shapes in a wall moving towards them without being knocked over into the water behind them.  The clips that have made their way to You Tube are hilarious and some of the positions they have to get in to try to get through the wall are ridiculous.
