“There’s so many people that need a lot of help,” DECA sponsor Joe Deciechi said. “It’s just incredible haw many people it [the earthquake] affected.”
For $1, students received two chocolate chip cookies. They were sold after first, second, third and fourth hours down in the business hallway. $103 was raised and donated to the relief efforts.
“I was happy,” senior Monica Martinez said. “I want to try to help as much as possible.”
Not as many cookies were sold due to a lack of advertising. Many kids were unaware that profits went to Haiti which is one speculated reason for the decline in sales.
“Being marketing students, we should have done a better job promoting,” Deciechi said.
Despite any lack of sales, the efforts continued during this week’s Haiti week. Several clubs will continue work to raise money for the cause, including tomorrow’s hat day.
“We used to sell cookies all the time,” Deciechi said. “A lot of organizations are doing different things and this was an easy as way for us to help.”
