On Feb. 10, the FHN foods department entered a team into the Francis Howell School District Iron Chef competition. Team members Sara Hardin, Darin Voyles, Drew Moersch, Charles Cantrell, Noah Sturis, and Brittney McGlasson. had to prepare a menu of dishes to serve to a panel of judges. Since Central did not enter a team, Howell and North were the only competitors. Despite practicing during January and part of February and winning the award for best table presentation, FHN took second place overall in the competition.
“I picked the team before Christmas,” sponsor Rebecca Crawford said. “The kids worked so hard and we had such a good menu, that I was in shock that we didn‘t win the gold.”
One of the most notable setbacks for North’s team during the competition was the dietary restrictions of several of the judges. The team received low scores for their use of prosciutto ham. The team is looking to do better next year at the competition.
“Last year, we got the gold, so next year we gotta get the gold back,” Crawford said.
