As a senior, I am, of course, working with a busy academic schedule. The least of my worries is another half credit of gym to graduate. It has come to my attention that compared to other local districts, the Francis Howell School District is one of the few to remain with this graduation criteria.
Why should students that are already physically fit be learning about health and fitness? They already have proven that they are strong and healthy. The statistics of teen obesity have increased, yes. But why should the rest of the student population be academically punished? It is putting the rest of us out of a half credit of something actually challenging to our minds.
Plain and simple. Varsity athletes should be considered exempt from their extra half credits of physical education.
