On Jan. 30, FHN’s own Elaine Downs was inducted into the Francis Howell High School Wrestilng Hall of Fame.
“I was recognized for over 30 years of score keeping and helping out,” secretary Downs said. “I keep scores at all Howell games and make sausage gravy by the gallon. I think that’s why they voted for me!”
The event was actually a trivia night that took place at the golf course at the Chesterfield Airport. Each year, new members of the wrestling team are inducted into the Hall of Fame, including one of Downs’ sons. This year, however, they did something different.
“I was very surprised because it’s always been wrestlers before,” Downs said. “This is the first time they went away from that.”
Those at FHN who know Downs are happy for her and feel that she deserves this recognition.
“I think it’s awesome,” office assistant Sherri Ralfs said. “It’s something that she and her family have been involved in for years and years and years. It’s just good to see someone that puts so much effort into something gets recognized and rewarded for it.”
