Junior NHS helps with little kids

This Saturday, Feb. 20, members of junior NHS will be spending their morning helping out the organization Parents as Teachers. Saturday’s session will be held at Becky David Elementary at 9 a.m. Around five members are signed up to help.

“I thought it would be fun to work with little kids because it’s fun and I wanted to get points,” junior member Ida Asega said.

The purpose of Parents as Teachers is to help young students learn and catch up to their peers. Parents are encouraged to help students with this development. Several subjects including writing, drawing, math, colors and shapes will be taught according to junior Lisa Queensen who participated in the event on Jan. 23.

While many member of NHS signed up primarily to get points most are anticipating the chance to work with young kids as well as help the community.

“I’m looking forward to interacting with the kids and making them laugh,” Asega said.

With a wide range of activities for members to help with, many plan not only to enjoy, but also learn from the experience they will gain on Saturday.

“I think working with the kids you can learn a lot from them too as we teach them,” junior NHS secretary Elizabeth Diggs said.
