On Jun 20-26 juniors Elizabeth Diggs and Lydia Ness will be representing FHN when they go to The University of Central Missouri for Missouri Girls State (MGS). The program was founded in 1940 to teach girls about government and leadership and is sponsored by The American Legion Auxiliary.
“Only six schools in the St. Louis area are going to be at Girls State so it’s an honor to have FHN participating and to represent our school.” Diggs said.
The girls at MGS will be running a mock town and acting in positions of power such as Governor, Court Justice, and Law Enforcement Officials.
“I hope to meet other girls that are interested in government and learn how everything works.” Ness said.
The girls will have an opportunity to experience life on a college campus, learn what it takes to run a town, and will be eligible to apply for many different scholarships.
“It’ll be nice to work on my leadership skills in different situations.” Ness said. “It’s a good chance to learn to think on your feet.”
