NHS holds induction ceremony

nhsinductionceremony32810On March 30, National Honor Society will have an induction ceremony for the members of the class of 2012. To be inducted into NHS, students must have a GPA of at least a 3.75. Their question this year will be ‘If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be and why?’. Future 2012 NHS member Alex Oppenborn already has her answer for the ceremony.

“I would be Scooby-Doo,” Oppenborn said, “Because even though he’s a coward, he still protects his friends and also he gets to fight crime.”

While Oppenborn is excited about joining NHS, her mother Michelle Oppenborn is also excited for her daughter and thinks she deserves the invitation into NHS.

“I think it’s a wonderful honor and I am very proud,” Michelle said. “She works really hard in school and I think she has earned it.”

With 86 new members, 2012 NHS sponsor Donna Malkmus thinks the students joining NHS are seizing an opportunity to stand out at graduation and in college.

“I think they want to be able to stand out at graduation with the honor stole,” Malkmus said. “I also think it looks good on college transcripts.”

Malkmus sees the induction ceremony going good and only having one potential minor problem.

“I think it will go really good,” Malkmus said. “We have done this so many years that we go by a script so, it should go smoothly. The only concern is keeping the candles lit.”

The newly inducted members will have their first meeting on March 31 at 7:00 a.m.
