North’s band is preparing for their last concert of the school year on May 6. They will display their talent by playing music in the auditorium.
“I think it [band concerts] shows that students can have a much deeper understanding for music than most people,” senior band student, Jon Lindsey said. “It’s a lot deeper than people think.”
Band has practiced routinely for the concert, but the band students have taken it upon themselves to get in extra practice, so they are at their best.
“[I practice] every day at least an hour a day,” junior Aaron Johnson said.
The band seems to be practicing a colorful variety of different songs to play for the audience.
“Band Wagon, Second Suit, and Russian Christmas Music [are songs that will be played],” freshman band student, John Melone said.
Band participants also have hopes as to what the audience, the school, and they themselves get out of the final concert of the school year.
“I hope it [the concert] makes me a better musician,” sophomore band student Sarah Romine said. “I hope the school recognizes that they have a good band program. I hope they [the audience] enjoy hearing music played by people they know themselves.”
In the musician’s opinion, people need to come to watch the band concerts.
“[The audience needs to] get educated about music and how it’s supposed to be played,” band student Jacob Schwarz said.
Band students want to go out with a bang for their final concert, but if it doesn’t go well, they will still be happy.
“Because it’s my last one, I’d kind of like to end the year with a bang,” Lindsey said. “It quite honestly doesn’t matter [how the concert goes] either way we had a good time. We are all glad to work together. Since it’s our last one I hope for cooperation and happiness throughout and a sense of accomplishment afterwards.”
