Martinez to play in All-Star game

mshannon16 years old, 2 days of play. Sophomore Braxton Martinez will be traveling to Chicago, Illinois for an All-Star baseball game that will take place on June 29 and June 30. On June 29 the team that was chosen will be taking part in a pro-style workout, all the kids that were chosen throughout the nation will go to the White Sox field and practice. On June 30 the actual game will take place, the guys will be split into two teams and play each other.

“I plan on working really hard this summer, working out everyday and practicing a lot,” Martinez said. “It’s really cool to know that I’m one of thirty representing our nation,”

Martinez’s coach, Coach Brandon, recomended him and a couple of his other teammates to the scout and suggested he come watch them play, Martinez was the only one that was asked to travel to Chicago. The scout came to one of their games and watched how the guys played, they only picked around 30 guys to be a part of the team.

“I’m going to be working out with Braxton and hitting with him to work on his swing to get him ready, you can never practice too much for this kind of stuff, it’s a pretty big deal,” Teammate Jon Willie said.

College scouts and pro scouts will be there watching the game. Martinez hopes to get a scholarship to play baseball in college to a good school. He also hopes to play after college if the opportunity presents itself.

“The college and pro scouts being there is only going to make me try harder and want to do better,” Martinez said.
