The Great History of FHN

Many people don’t know what the history of our school really is. Some believe we don’t have one, but we definitely do. The history of Francis Howell North can be seen as a very unique past.

“The building was first opened in 1982 as Henderson Junior High,” Principal Darlene Jones said, “Then in 1986 the school became Francis Howell North.”

After Francis Howell North was established, there were major renovations that needed to be done to the school to get it in working condition.

“The main office is where the cafeteria is now, the library was right next to the office and in the first architectural plans originally had a swimming pool in the school,” Administrative assistant Marilyn Jarvis said.

Even with the schools interior being worked on, there was the still the issue of playing fields for sports that haven’t been built yet.

“It was a big bummer,” Secretary Joan Baur said, ” we didnt have any football and baseball fields, we had to play at other school’s fields.”

In 1994 was the last renovation that Francis Howell North had undertaken, but soon, in the coming year, Francis Howell North will go through one more renovation adding even more onto the school with four new science labs on the backside of the school.

“The structure has been what it’s been since it was built,” Jones said.
