When summer comes around, generally sports seasons come to an end. However for Patrick Fountain, the swimming season keeps going.

“I swim summer and year round actually for the Rec Plex Sharks,” Fountain said. “It really helps for the high school season.”

The summer sharks team was said to be a lot more competitive then high school. It also is more rigorous and challenging due to the fact the events are longer and the competition level is higher. Most summer swimmers are trying to qualify for a sectional and national meet.

“My goal is to qualify to sectionals is two more events,” Fountain said. “I’ve already qualified in two events.”

Fountain and other swimmers throughout the Metro Saint Louis area will be competing in various meets throughout the summer. Meets will take place at SIU, Missouri State University and The Saint Peters Rec Plex.

“Patrick works really hard with what he does,” Sarah Bruce said. “I hope he does stupendous this summer.”
