Plan test challenges sophomores’ knowledge

It may be the first half day of the year, although the schedule is different from a normal half day. The schedule is running on the same times; although different hours, accommodating to testing.  The Sophomore class will be taking “The Plan Test”. All students are let out at 11:25 a.m.

7:25 a.m. The warning bell rings and students scramble to class; trying to avoid being tardy. Students begin the day with a homeroom, but little does the Sophomore class know that they have a long half day in store for them.
“I just heard it’s going to be a really long test and I don’t quite know what to expect except cold.” Katie Cuneo nervously said.

7:50 a.m.  Instructed to bring two number two lead pencils, and a jacket sophomores head to the large gym. The jacket is advised due to the rapid temperature decrease in the large gym, to keep students awake. Every Sophomore class has to take “The Plan Test”, which determines what fields they are compatible with in the future and is ACT preparation. The Plan Test consists of questions about their interests, future plans, and then there is the testing over various categories.

“I think it’s an excellent idea. It gives them [students] a good idea of how they’re going to do on the ACT, and where they should focus on more. I also think all grades should be encouraged to take the ACT each year.” Said Bridget Myers.

8:05-9:45 a.m.  While the Sophomore class prepares for their future, the rest of the school is still in session and promptly moves through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hours without confusion.

9:50-10:55 a.m. Here is the switch which throws off most students, because it’s not the average half day. With Sophomores still testing, all other classes continue through 6th and 7th hours, skipping 4th and 5th hours.

“The schedule is really confusing and pointless because I don’t know why we can’t just go to all hours. They could just be shortened. I just can’t wait for the end of the day.” Said Missy Holmes.

11:00 a.m.  The bell rings, all students being released and teachers stand in the halls directing students to their homerooms for the second time today. Sophomores practically running out of the big gym, whining because of the cold temperatures and silence for three hours.

“The plan test was boring and it was cold the entire time. I thought it was easy but time consuming naturally. I’m just excited to go out to eat and enjoy my half day.” Said Rachel Kramer.
