Anatomy and Physiology Classes Attend Body World Exhibit

On Friday, September 30, 2011, Anatomy and Physiology classes took a field trip to the St. Louis Science Center for an exhibit of Gunther von Hagens’ Body World. On display there were a large variety of different body parts and systems. This was the first trip back to the science center after a four year gap.

“Just to see the advances in science, was really one of the main reason I wanted to take the kids this year.” Dawn Hahn said.

Students were very excited about the trip.

“I’m excited to see all the body systems, and how they really look, not just pictures in books.” Nicole Massarand said.

During the exhibit, students completed a generalized packet over the large variety of body parts and systems in the human body.

“I think I’m more interested in how, this being a very unique experience for the students, how well they take the things that they’ve seen and apply it to the things that we’re going to learn for the rest of the year.” said Hahn.

“It was interesting to see the real world application of anatomy.” Eliessa Polhamus said.

This kind of connection was the exact goal of the field trip. The connection between physical interaction with real body parts and labeling organs on a test in class seemed to be a very well received theme.

“Actually seeing it in 3D will really stick with me. I’m really bad at remembering placement and stuff so it should help.” Cheyenne Johnson said. “It was kind of shocking but still really cool.”

Because Body World is a traveling exhibit, this was the best time to go and experience the once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I really just enjoyed the whole experience because I knew I wouldn’t have been able to see it anywhere else.” Masa Sibinovic said.
