Contest of pride for Knights football

The Varsity Knights football team will take the field against the Howell Central Spartans (3-6) on Friday Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The two teams met last year, also in the last game of the season, and the Spartans scored on an 18-yard fumble recovery to beat the Knights 28-21. The Knights are 1-8 as of press time this season, and it has been a rough season, according to Sophomore quaterback Justin Hayden.

“We haven’t performed to the capability of the team because of the injuries,” Hayden said. “The injuries that we’ve had this year took a huge toll on the team.”

This game may not count for much in the way of standings for the Knights, but it will be a contest of pride for the seniors, and a building block to bolster the confidence of the underclassmen. The Knights hope to end the season on a W, so they can take away something positive from this season.

“Ending on a W would give confidence to the players throughout the off-season and the season to come,” Hayden said. “I feel that it’ll make the team strive harder to want a winning season.”
