Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was recently re-released in 3D. The movie has sparked excitement in old fans since a Star Wars movie has not been shown on the big screen since 2005 when Episode III was released. The re-release was also an opportunity for new fans to start experiencing the series. Those in the audience anticipated how the 3D version of the movie would turn out.

“I had high expectations before I saw the movie,” said Junior Kendrick Gaussion. “And I was not disappointed.”

The movie was released on Friday, Feb. 10 and was in the top 10 record-breaking ticket sales for the weekend of its release and sales reached an average of about $8.6 million. The movie did a bit better on Feb. 11, bringing in $8.7 million. For the entire weekend the movie raked in an average of $23 million. Most 3D movies aren’t worth the extra cost, but according to junior Kendrick Gaussion this is not the case for The Phantom Menace 3D. Gaussion thought the 3D version of the movie added even more action to some of the scenes.

“The 3D was incredible,” Gaussion said. “By adding it, the movie really seemed to leap off the screen and the pod race was top-notch.”

Fans were shocked by some of the 3D additions to the movie, and sophomore Robbie Frkovic enjoyed being captured into the action.

“At first I thought it was kind of weird,” Frkovic said. “Once I really got into it I thought it was awesome.”
