Jazz band Performs its final concert

After a year of daily practice, FHN’s Jazz band gathered for their end of the year concert. Some were underclassmen who would get another chance, others were seniors anticipating their final performance. Afterward, all they have left is a quick recording after school two weeks later.

“[The concert] gives us a chance to show what we’ve learned all year long during class” percussionist Katie Busby said.

A half hour before the concert, members begin carrying in assortments of instruments chairs, stands and sheet music into the auditorium. Groups begin practicing . An upper-classmen begins to sing the notes along with her section to keep their time. Despite their practice sessions, many are still nervous about their certain pieces. After everything is set and the time comes, Directer Jeff Moorman calls everyone in. Soon after, the concert begins. The band begins to play their five piece performance.

Fourty-five minutes later there is a standing ovation.

“It went great,” sophmore Tanner Gunnett said.  “Some of the stuff we didn’t have down got worked out”.

Relieved and content with their concert, musicians begin cleaning up the stage, packing up their instruments, and going on their way.

“ It was a good last performance,” said senior Megan Weber.
