Detective Speaks to Sophomores About Cyberbulling

On Oct 17 and 24 Detective Tony Stewart of the Troy Police Department talked to the sophomore class in a homeroom assembly. He talked of cyerbullies and sex offenders.

Detective Stewart warned of posting sexually provacitive videos or photos, revealing too much personal information online, friending people who aren’t known personally, and bulling others on line, also known as

“Cyberbullying has grown across teens,” Guidance Counselor Stephanie Johnson said, “they don’t know the consequences,”

Possessing a sexually explicit photo of someone under the age of 18 is considered child pornography and may result in an addition to the Sex Offender List. Transgressors are eligible for the Sex Offender List at 14. Once an entry is made on the Sex Offender List, it is permenant.

“Anybody above 14 can get in trouble,” Sophomore Maram Hamdam said, “even if they didn’t mean it.

“Sexting” or sending sexually explicit texts is a sexual offense and is not taken lightly. Not reporting a picture is also considered an offense.
