Trick or Treat Street Preview

Kids receiving candy at the 2011 Trick or Treat Street

With the help of sponsors Beth Wilkins and Shelly Parks, FHN’s Student Council will be hosting the charity event, Trick or Treat Street on Oct. 30. It will be from 5- 7:30 p.m. Adults are $2 per person and children get in for free. The charity goes out to an elementary school student whose immune system has shut down. The money raised will go to her family and will help pay for her hospital bills. She will be attending the event.

“The thing I enjoy most would be the charity we chose,” President of Student Council Austin Wiedner said. “It’s a fundraiser event and a way to reach out to the community.”

Trick or Treat Street has many improvements from last year. This includes the themes, the decorations, the attendance, and the involvement. Last year’s attendance was around 600 people. This year they are shooting for seven hundred to eighthundred. Many clubs have volunteered, such as FCCLA, DECA, sign language, the Ecology Club, the Drama Club, Publications, and KOE. Each club has their own themed classroom. In each room there will be an activity presented by disguised students, who are also handing out candy.

“I like how many clubs are involved,” committee chair of decorating Ashley Flerlage said. “We have probably about twice the amount of clubs as last year.”

Most agree that the most exciting thing will be seeing the children dress up, have fun and get candy. Amanda Stallings, Vice President of KOE believes that the most exciting thing will be the SpongeBob inflatable that will be provided by KOE.

“My favorite thing is the inflatable because its SpongeBob themed, it’s going to be totally awesome,” Stallings said.

Nick Bussell, co-editor and chief of the North Star is very excited. Although they are taking a more trendy approach, Bussell can be found in the Publications room dressed as “Thing 2.” Publications will be preforming a self-written play to entertain the passing children.

“It’s going to pertain to people of all ages, because all of us are going to be really fun and up-beat for the little kids and then we’re gonna take a hipster edge with it to interest teenagers.” Bussell said.

Bring your children of all ages to enjoy a fun and safe night of Trick or Treating.
