Knight’s Wrestlers Face the Timberland Wolves

Wednesday Howell North’s wrestling team prepared to take on the Timberland Wolves in Francis Howell North’s gym at 6p.m. North’s Freshmen wrestling team came out with a victory while the JV and Varsity teams on the other hand suffered a tough lost. On the Varsity team the only wrestler to win his match was Junior Danny Goggin wrestling in the heavy weight class and on the JV team, Junior Zac Fletcher wresting in the 132 pound weight class. Both boys were excited to win their first match of the year and hopefully set the tone for the rest of the season.

“I was confident going into the match but I knew walking onto the mat that I had a good match ahead of me and to walk away with pinning him felt pretty awesome,” Fletcher said. “I was pretty pumped afterwards.”

Even though two wrestlers were individually victorious, the wrestling team as a whole has some improvements to make before the next match. Fletcher, a previous JV wrestler, will be joining the Varsity team. The team will be competing in the Parkway South Tournament on Friday and Saturday. They are planning on making the improvements that they have worked on in practice and going into the tournament confident.

“I think we defiantly underperformed Wednesday, we need to kick up the conditioning and work on the aspects that we got beat on if we want to do well in the tournament,” Coach Chris Brown said. “We need to be better on our feet and gain more control on top.”
