Graduate and 2012 Mu Alpha Theta officer Taylor Bartram gives a speech to last year’s inductees. Students who have taken Algebra 2 or higher and who have a specific math GPA are inducted into the group. Mu Alpha Theta hold fundraisers such as bingo night to raise money for their two senior scholarships.

Mu Alpha Theta awards two of their most involved seniors with a scholarship. To raise money for these scholarships, the club hold fundraisers during the year. One of those include their annual bingo night that will take place tomorrow, at 2:45 p.m. in the commons. The night will last for a couple of hours.

“The night is important for our club,” Sponsor Val VanDerBeck said. “It’s our biggest thing during the year that raises money for our senior scholarships.”

The bingo cards cost $1 each and players can use one card for three rounds. People are able to purchase as many cards as they would like. Gift baskets including a Bath and Body basket, a basket filled with school supplies and a St. Patricks Day basket. The prizes will be given out to winners. There will also be free snacks and beverages available.

“It’s a good night,” Mu Alpha Theta president Kerry Moriarty said. “It’s fun because it’s good a great atmosphere and it’s pretty easy to win a round of bingo. It’s also important because we raise money to give to students who need the scholarships.”

Emcee and Mu Alpha Theta member, Nathan Compton enjoys participating in the fundraising events and looks forward to helping with bingo night.

“I heard it was a lot of fun last year,” Compton said. “I’m looking forward to actually being there. The people in Mu Alpha Theta are fun and I think it will be a great way to raise money.”

This is the fifth year Mu Alpha Theta has held the bingo night. There are usually around 70 attendees and anyone is welcome to attend.

“It’s only $1 to play a card,” VanDerBeck said. “It’s worth it. It’s a super fun night and you’d be surprised by how crazy people get when playing.”
