Seniors Jake Boshears and Tyler Strickland enjoy music and let loose on the bus dressed in their Knightsound attire before arriving at Fort Zumwalt North for their competition.

As 4A lunch ended on March 6, choir students were released from their classes in a flurry of nervous excitement. Members from the Treble Choir, Concert Choir, and Knightsound fled into the choir room to wait for their bus to arrive. It would take them out to Fort Zumwalt South for the annual MSHSAA state choir competition.

“You could tell everyone was excited. We all were pretty crazy throughout the day.” senior Courtney Nixon said

Leaving the school shortly after 11 a.m., the students boarded the bus. They made a short stop in the Zumbehl plaza to eat lunch before heading to the competition.

“It was kind of cool that we got to eat lunch out instead of at school,” sophomore Andrew Leonard said. “It gave everyone a chance to relax and have a good time before having to focus really hard once we got to the school.”

FZS was swarming with students; choirs from every school in the district and other districts were present. The choir students got a chance to watch some of the competition before they performed their own pieces.

“There’s a lot of talent at other schools. I was pretty impressed with some of them while others weren’t as successful.” Nixon said

Each school’s choir gets a rating one through five at these competitions, one being the best and five being the worst. Both Concert Choir and Knightsound got a one while the Treble Choir got a two.

“It was really cool performing because we had other people from our school in the crowd cheering us on and it felt good to finally perform all the songs we’d been practicing for so long.” Leonard said

With the competition done and their performances in the past, choir students now focus on their spring concert with the new found confidence they gained from state.

“It was fun and we did well, but I’m glad it’s all over. I think all of Knightsound along with the rest of the choirs are pretty pumped about getting to work on new music.” junior Corey Bruns said
