    Planned Harlem Shake Deemed Dangerous

Head Principal Darlene Jones made an announcement Wednesday afternoon informing the school that the “Harlem Shake” that was coordinated by students via Twitter was unsafe and wouldn’t be tolerated.

“All of the administrators are on Twitter,” Jones said. “We follow various people, and saw that a few students were tweeting about it, so we talked to them, and explained that this needed to be better planned this if it were to happen.”

Jones expressed concern that if the plans were to continue on, someone would’ve been hurt. The tables and loft in the Commons presented a threat to students’ safety, because of the fad dance’s erratic behavior and moves. Jones went on to explain that if students were to plan an event that was school-sanctioned, it would be considered and could be approved by administrators, if they found it to be safe for students.

“Two other schools in the district have already performed their own version of the Harlem Shake, but with permission from administrators,” Jones said. “Those individuals would need to get permission to use the gym from Activities Director Mike Janes, and then Mr. Janes would bring that before the administrators to make sure that if it’s going to happen, it happens safely.”

Francis Howell Central, and Howell High School both made a Harlem Shake. Howell’s video had 13,797 views on YouTube. that video can be found Here, or below.
