Mark Wright to Coach for Spring Boys Golf Season

The boy’s golf team heads into their season with a new coach and experienced, returning players. First-year coach Mark Wright‘s goals for the season include competing well and making sure the boys have fun.

“I really enjoy coaching and working with high schoolers, not just in the classroom, but outside as well,” head coach Wright, who was also a North boys basketball coach this past season, said. “I also really enjoy the game of golf.”

The team lost a few seniors last year, but the players and coach still think they will compete well. They aspire to get as many players to State as possible.

“We did okay last year,” junior Cody Pingleton said. “We didn’t do as good as we thought we could, but this year we are hoping to do better. As a team, we are going to try to get as many players to State as we can.”

Wright and the older players hope to be successful leaders and help the other players. Wright wants to be able to mentor the players in all aspects of their game and pass on the knowledge that he has.

“I hope to bring some leadership,” Wright said. “I will bring advice and coaching wherever I can give it, and I hope to help out with the mental side of golf because golf is a game where the mental part of the game is key. So, I not only want to help their game but coach them mentally.”

Practices and home matches will be hosted at Bogey Hills this year; last year they were hosted at Mid Rivers. Their first match will take place March 27 at Troy.

“I know a couple golfers made it to State last year and have had some success, so I am excited,” Wright said.
