at FHN. According to papers obtained through the Sunshine Law, during a closed meeting FHSD’s Board of Education (BOE) voted 5-2 to dismiss him. Spencer asked for an unpaid leave of absence while he’s serving his term as a state legislator. Spencer filed a suit with the St. Charles County Circuit Court.

“This is just the beginning of the fight, we have several options to look at and we’re not ruling out any of them,” Spencer said.

Spencer worked his last day at FHN on Jan. 7. He worked for FHSD since 1990 and has worked at FHN since 1997. On Jan. 9, Spencer was sworn in as a state legislator. The decision about the requests were determined by the BOE. According to FHSD’s Chief of Human Resources Officer Steve Griggs, there are policies about leaves that the BOE must follow when making their decision about granting or denying the leave.

BOE President Marty Hodits believes Spencer will miss developments and advances in education because of the extended amount of time requested in his leave.

“We want to be able to deliver teachers to the classroom that can give the best that we can afford to the kids,” Hodits said.
