Volunteer Knights Lose Members

Last year the Francis Howell North Volunteer Knights consisted of 26 members, but this year membership is down to only three. Volunteer Knights is a club that spends its time helping others in the community.

“Last year we went on a field trip and helped the Oasis Food Pantry set up for the Boy Scout food drive,” Sponsor Jenelle Louis-Bauer said.

The Volunteer Knights run the school’s annual blood drive and go on field trips into the community to help raise money. They are also responsible for several of the hat days held at the school. Their primary goal is to help those that are less fortunate.

Since attendance has been so low Louis-Bauer is concerned about the groups ability to participate in their usual activities this year. Louis-Bauer blames the lack of interest on the business of student’s schedules.

“Between work and school it’s hard to find time for extra stuff,” junior Lexie Biggs said.

Louis-Bauer was not given the position of sponsor until late September so she was not able to begin promoting Volunteer Knights until that time, but she has high hopes that more people will attend their next meeting on the morning of Nov. 13 in room 65. Volunteer Knights member Dominque Meyer also hopes that more people will be interested in joining the Volunteer Knights.

“Volunteering is really important because it’s a way we can give back to the community,” Meyer said. “By joining Volunteer Knights, you can help out others without sacrificing too much of your own time.”
