10-26 V Football vs Washington [photo gallery]

On October 25, the Francis Howell North Knights hosted the last home varsity football game of the season against the Washington Blue Jays. With it being senior night, all seniors from marching band and color guard, Knightline, cheerleading, and football were recognized as they walked down the track to meet with their parents to receive a medal. 18 band members and color guard, 4 Knightline members, 4 cheerleaders, and 12 football players were part of the ceremony.

North scored first with a touchdown after 6:46 of play to put the Knights ahead 7-0. On the very next play, Washington returned the kickoff for a touchdown to tie the score at 7-7. In the second quarter, the Blue Jays scored a touchdown, making the score 7-14. North then scored a touchdown of their own, which tied the game at 14-14. However, with 13 seconds left in the half, Washington scored a touchdown, along with a two-point conversion. The score going into halftime was 14-22.

With less than five minutes left in the third quarter, North scored to bring them within two of Washington. A successful two-point conversion tied the game at 22-22. Within the last minutes of the third quarter and the first minutes of the fourth quarter, North scored three times. Once on a field goal and twice on touchdowns. With 7:26 left in the game, North was up 39-22. A touchdown less than one minute later the last touchdown of the night was scored by Washington, which made the score 39-29, which was also the final score.

After the win, the football team ran to the bleachers to sing the FHN fight song, and then as a tradition on senior night, the senior players were carried off of the field by the underclassmen.

“I think senior night was a lot of fun, It’s always a great way to recognize our athletes and give them their last time to shine”, said junior, and Knightline member Monica Friedman. (photos by matt krieg)
